Hey Guys!
I’m hard at work on my “January Wrap Up”, and will have that coming your way in the next few days! In the meantime I wanted to share with you, some exciting Movies I heard about this week. As some of you probably know, the annual Sundance Film Festival is happening this week, and TONS of new Movies get shopped around/screened to the public. I didn’t attend the Festival (I would really like to one day though), but I have been keeping a close eye on all the trailers released, as well as all the Reviews & Buzz about the movies that were a hit. I can’t even tell you how excited I am for 2019. It’s going to be a great year for Film.
I decided to make a quick little Blog Post here, and share some of the exciting details about all these films with you guys. I obviously know very little information so far, except for a few very small plot blurbs. No release dates yet, few photos.. just a little hint of information has been leaked so far. I will copy and paste from IMDB/Google, the mini-plot summaries I’m able to find.
I also thought I would share some recent photos of me, from a beautiful Winter walk around Kits Beach.. here in Vancouver B.C. It was such an amazing day, and I’m also really in love with my pink raincoat.
I looked up a little bit about the History of the Sundance Film Festival, and I figured I would paste the Wiki blurb as well. It sums it up better than I ever could, and I thought you may find it interesting!
(The Sundance Film Festival, a program of the Sundance Institute, takes place annually in Park City, Utah. With over 46,660 attendees in 2016, it is the largest independent film festival in the United States.[1] Held in January in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as at the Sundance Resort, the festival is a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers.[2] The festival comprises competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films, both feature films and short films, and a group of out-of-competition sections, including NEXT, New Frontier, Spotlight, Midnight, Premieres, and Documentary Premieres. The 2019 Sundance Film Festival began January 24 and runs through February 3.)
1.) “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile”
Zac Efron is the infamous/evil Serial Killer Ted Bundy.. and he looks EXACTLY like him. Netflix recently released a Docu-Series about Ted Bundy (I will be Reviewing this for you in next week’s January Wrap Up), and everyone is obsessed with the insane Ted Bundy case again. This movie couldn’t come out at a better time. I can’t wait!
Google Plot Summary
(1969. Ted (Zac Efron) is crazy-handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate. And cautious single mother Liz Kloepfer (Lily Collins) ultimately cannot resist his charms. For her, Ted is a match made in heaven, and she soon falls head over heels in love with the dashing young man. A picture of domestic bliss, the happy couple seems to have it all figured out until, out of nowhere, their perfect life is shattered. Ted is arrested and charged with a series of increasingly grisly murders. Concern soon turns to paranoia and, as evidence piles up, Liz is forced to consider that the man with whom she shares her life could actually be a psychopath.)
2.) “Paradise Hills”
I have no idea what this is really about, but from the few leaked photos.. it looks right up my alley aesthetically. I love Emma Roberts, and I would probably watch anything with her in it. The plot sounds interesting too, and very sort of YA Dystopian. I’m into it.
Google Plot Summary/IMDB
(Paradise Hills is an 2019 American-Spanish fantasy drama film, directed by Alice Waddington in her directorial debut. It stars Emma Roberts, Danielle Macdonald, Awkwafina, Eiza González, Milla Jovovich, and Jeremy Irvine. Also Antonio Serrano Jiménez acts in the film. A mysterious boarding school perfectly reforms wayward girls to fit their surroundings’ exact desires.)
3.) “Love Antosha”
Anton Yelchin was one of my favorite Actors, of all time. His movie “Like Crazy” is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. I first fell in love with him when he starred in the heartbreaking movie “Alpha Dog”, and he also went on to be in “Star Trek”, and many other movies.. also “Thoroughbreds” which I loved as well. When he died a few years ago, after a tragic accident.. I was really devastated. He was so young, and it was such a random, awful accidental death. It’s just so sad. This new movie “Love Antosha” is a Documentary about his life, and his work.. made and starring all the people who loved him. From family, to fellow Actors.. it’s just supposed to be incredible. It’s going to be a hard watch, but I am really looking forward to this one.
IMDB Plot Summary
(A portrait of the extraordinary life and career of actor Anton Yelchin.)
4.) “Wounds”
This one is very mysterious, and almost nothing has been released about the Plot.. other than a creepy photo, and the fact that Dakota Johnson and Armie Hammer are the leads. I love them both, especially Dakota Johnson.. so I’m really excited. It might turn out to be a huge flop, but I have a good feeling.
Google Plot Summary/IMDB
(Wounds is a 2019 psychological horror film written and directed by Babak Anvari, based on the novella The Visible Filth by Nathan Ballingrud. It stars Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Karl Glusman and Brad William Henke. It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2019. Disturbing and mysterious things begin to happen to a bartender in New Orleans after he picks up a phone left behind at his bar.)
5.) “The Report”
When I found out Adam Driver was in this, I was immediately drawn to it. I think he is a fantastic Actor.. and Jon Hamm is also in this.. so just a home run for me. This looks like a really well done, and smart movie.
Google Plot Summary
(Senate staffer Daniel Jones is assigned the daunting task of leading an investigation into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation Program. After analyzing extensive evidence, he learns about the enhanced interrogation techniques proven to be brutal, immoral, and ineffective that the CIA adopted after 9/11. 6. “Late Night”
A Comedy Written By & Starring Mindy Kaling?? Yes Please! Apparently this was inspired by Mindy’s own experiences being a Female Writer for the hit TV Show “The Office”.
Google Plot Summary
(A talk show host on the verge of losing her show hires in a female writer to help revitalize the program.)
7.) “The Lodge”
A creepy Thriller/Horror Film starring Alicia Silverstone & Riley Keough (who I adore). It sounds like the plot of every book I love, haha.

8.) “Honey Boy”
Written By & Starring Shia LaBeouf
No matter how bizarre Shia LaBeouf has gotten over the past few years..I have always LOVED every second of it. I think he is a real Artist, and has some wildly creative talent. This movie is getting a TON of buzz, and I’m maybe the most excited for this one, out of them all. Also PS, I’m still not over Shia’s dancing in Sia’s “Elastic Heart” Music Video.. it was unreal.
IMDB Plot Summary
(A child actor works to mend the relationship with his hard-drinking, law-breaking father.)
9. “Velvet Buzzsaw”
A creepy thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal & John Malkovich. It looks like a scary/satirical take on the “Art World”. Coming SOON to Netflix!
Google Plot Summary
(After paintings by an unknown artist are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art.)
10.) “Sweetheart”
This is supposed to be a TERRIFYING intense Survival Story/Horror Movie. It’s supposed to be really scary, and very well shot. I’m really excited about this one… but I also this it’s going to give me a lot of anxiety while watching it, haha.
IMDB Plot Summary
(Jenn has washed ashore a small tropical island and it doesn’t take her long to realize she’s completely alone. She must spend her days not only surviving the elements, but must also fend off the malevolent force that comes out each night.)
Anddd.. that is my Top 10 List, of all the Movies I’ve seen previewed at Sundance so far! The Festival is still on for another few days, so who knows what else might get teased! I for one, am very excited.
