“In the Wide World the Wood-elves lingered in the twilight of our Sun and Moon, but loved best the stars; and they wandered in the great forests that grew tall in lands that are now lost. They dwelt most often by the edges of the woods, from which they could escape at times to hunt, or to ride and run over the open lands by moonlight or starlight; and after the coming of Men they took ever more and more to the gloaming and the dusk. Still elves they were and remain, and that is Good People.”

“The Elven Way passes beyond the fields of the known into the forest of the unknown, illuminated by the glow of the elves.”

Why Hello Again Guys!
As you all probably know by now, dressing up as an Elf is a very fond pastime of mine. I’ve done it probably way too many times, and I’ve leveled up my obsession lately with some metal elf ears. I ordered them on Etsy, and they are the cutest thing ever. They are made like an earring, and once hooked into your ear piercing you just loop the pointed elf ear cuff onto the top of your ear… and voila! I love how Etsy has anything and everything you could ever want (like a fucking METAL ELF EAR). People are so creative it blows my mind! I also dressed up as an Elf for Halloween, and never got around to posting those photos.. so I will be spamming you guys with BOTH the metal ear cuff photos, as well as my Halloween cosplay look. I have to say the Halloween wig I wore, made me seriously consider chopping my hair and going pink!
I feel like I’ve been weirdly obsessed with all forms of fantasy from a very young age. My first taste of the magical world, was for sure “The Little Mermaid”. The idea of a Mermaid got me WAY too excited, and I’m pretty sure I thought I WAS one for my entire Kindergarten year. Next up after Mermaids, was the world of “Harry Potter”.. and then FULL speed ahead into “Lord of the Rings”, “The Dark Crystal”, and honestly anything I could get my hands on. I loved it all with reckless abandon, and I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over seeing Legolas hit the big screen.. in all his blonde golden Elf glory. Also Arwen doing that epic horse chase scene, is a close second cinematic moment for me haha!
I thought it would be fun to break down my all-time favorite Elf & Elf-Like Characters from some of my favorite Movies! I’ve got a Gelfling or two to throw in as well, and possibly a House-Elf moment.
So Without Further Ado….. Let’s Get To My Most Beloved Elves
1.) “Lord of the Rings” The Trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers & The Return of the Ring) & “The Hobbit” The Trilogy (An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug & The Battle of the Five Armies”
So obviously it’s virtually impossible to discuss famous Elf characters without IMMEDIATELY thinking “LEGOLAS LEGOLAS” over and over in your head. Not only is the actor Orlando Bloom gorgeous, but he brings such life and charm to this legendary character. I feel a very similar love for the actress Liv Tyler’s portrayal of Arwen.
They are only two of the Elf characters in this multi faceted universe, and there are so so many wonderful different species, characters, creatures, and even talking trees (also Gollum) to enjoy. I put the “Hobbit” and the “LOTR” films together in this post, because it’s all within the Tolkien World, and it’s all brilliant. I will attach some photos of all my absolute favorites.
Also how could I forget Evangeline Lilly’s STUNNING performance as Tauriel in “The Hobbit” films?!
2.) “The Dark Crystal” The Original Jim Henson 1982 Film & “The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance” The Netflix & Jim Henson Company TV Series
Ok before I even get started on my undying love and obsession with this Film & the subsequent TV Show, lets define what a “Gelfling” is.
Gelfling are a race of elf-like creatures native to the planet of Thra. The term Gelfling derives from the term “Ghel-lflainngk” roughly translates to “those who live without knowledge of the future,” according to The World of the Dark Crystal documentary.
I will never forget the first time I saw Jim Henson’s masterpiece “The Dark Crystal”. Randomly it was in Elementary School during some class where our teacher was off sick. The substitute put it on, and I had never even heard of it before. For some reason I remember finding it really creepy, and my best friend Tina and I were SO scared of the Gelfling’s. It’s so funny to think about that now, because it’s become one of my Top 5 All-Time Fav Films & I have several framed Art pieces from the movie all over my house haha. When Netflix announced they were doing a TV Series, I actually screamed out loud. It was fucking perfect of course.
And the real M.V.P… Dobby our favorite House Elf & Harry Potter’s best pal…
3.) “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”
House-elves serve wizards and witches and are usually found under the employment of old wizarding families taking residence in elaborate establishments, like mansions, and must do everything that their masters command unless they are freed. A house-elf can only be freed when their master presents them with clothes.
Obviously I love Dobby. Not much else to say, other than he’s a goddamn hero & one of the best characters of the entire “Harry Potter” world. He’s just delightful, and I could go on and on for days. The cutest little Elf of all time. I would give him every single sock I could find!
I should mention another Elf that I really dislike, and I’m not even sure why haha. When my Sister and I were kids we would always watch “The Santa Clause” every single Christmas Season, and it’s still to this day one of the greatest Christmas movies. However there is one character that Paige and I still despise, even to this day. His name is Bernard, and if you KNOW you know. He’s actually a great actor, and is very handsome. I don’t know what it WAS about him.. but he just rubbed me the wrong way haha. I love that I still feel this way, at 33… I need to get a life and move on from my Bernard hatred LOL. I did love the little Elf girl who brings Tim Allen the Hot Chocolate though haha!
Also one other little Christmas Elf that HAS to be mentioned is HERMEY from the classic “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. He is the sweetest little angel, and I just feel so much nostalgia when I think of his little blonde head & his dreams of becoming a Dentist.
Honorable Mentions
I love the musician Grimes so very much, and when I saw that she had a cameo (DRESSED AS AN ELF) in Doja Cat’s new music video for the song “Need to Know”... I almost lost my mind.
I’ve watched it like 1,000 times, and it’s just spectacular.
Also speaking of Grimes, she has dressed up in some badass Elf Cosplay, soo many times. I will post some of my favorites here for you to enjoy. God I love her so much, and the fact she is from Vancouver just makes me ridiculously thrilled.
Thanks for Reading all about my Elf Obsession,
I will see you all very soon with a Spring Wrap Up,
xoxo
Carly.
